Without further adieu, here are the A, B, C’s of May for the Smith Family (we gave ourselves a 30-minute time limit for this entry, so bear with our creativity—or lack thereof):
A- Another month has come and gone and we’re still alive and kicking. Will wonders never cease?
B- Kadence and Tayah have taken to blowing bubbles on the front lawn. Kadence will run around screaming with glee as she chases the bubbles. We are enjoying Spring.
C- We still love being the proud owner of two cars. Kadence still thinks the minivan is “so fun!” Tayah has also moved on to a new and improved (i.e. larger) car seat.
D- David/Daddy stayed busy with the normal combination of work, church, and family. Same old, same old!
E- Ditto for Elizabeth/Mommy. She takes care of all three of us, while managing to fit in her fair share of Young Women lessons/activities, home projects, and Enrichment activities (recipe group, play group, etc.).
F- We celebrated a quiet, rainy Memorial Day at home. While the weather and some sick girls precluded us for doing anything elaborate, words cannot express our gratitude for our freedom.
G- Grandpa and Grandma came and babysat a few times so we could go to a few outings. The girls love it when they come!
H- Tayah came down with a common baby virus called the Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease. Basically she got spots and blisters on her body, but especially on her hands, feet, and mouth (you never would’ve guessed that based on the name, would you?!). She seemed to do just fine, with the exception of some anything-but-fun diarrhea. She averaged three outfits a day (TMI).
I- Ice cream: a daily Smith family staple. Tayah has joined the ranks of ice cream aficionados.
J- The Utah Jazz gave us a fun ride, making it to the second round. They dispatched the evil Houston Rockets and fell to the villainous LA Lakers. It’s no secret: these are two of David’s mortal enemies in life. Great season Jazz…let’s get ready for next year!
K- Our little princess Kadence amazes us each day. We need to have a note pad in tow from sun up to sun down so we can jot down the cute things she say each day. She loves reading to, teaching, and occasionally hitting her baby sister.
L- We had our biannual BYU-Hawaii campaign at work, complete with an authentic Hawaiian luau. Aloha everyone!
M- Mother’s Day is only one day, but we celebrated the mothers in our lives with presents, parties, and love. Kadence, Tayah, and I are ever so grateful for Elizabeth and all that she does. She’s the best Mommy in the world! We are also thankful for our mothers and the sacrifices they’ve made for us. We’re truly blessed to have them in our lives!
N- Kadence has started to enjoy Nursery more and sometimes doesn’t want to come home afterward!
O- Our new LDS Philanthropies building was dedicated on the 16th by President Henry B. Eyring. What a special day and dedicatory prayer. We were thrilled to have him, along with Bishop David H. Burton with us that day. President Eyring even stepped into my office and shook my hand. That was followed by a fun open house. I love my job!
P- Elizabeth and I attended the annual BYU President’s Dinner. It was a terrific evening with great food and company (loyal donors to the university).
Q- We continued on our slow quest toward potty training with Kadence. She had four or five successes, but it doesn’t look like she’s moving on just yet. Cross your fingers!
R- We found a lot of relaxation in the form of movies this month. There was the good (National Treasure 2, Amazing Grace, 27 Dresses, No Reservations) and the bad (Juno, Waitress, Over Her Dead Body).
S- We christened our new barbeque with some steaks. You can’t go wrong with a little Bar-Be-Que!
T- Baby Tayah has learned how to crawl and boy does she love doing it! She has gotten so much more personality as of late. She beams with smiles most of the day and really loves to cuddle. She has picked up more signs, including her first Daddy during sacrament meeting. She weaned herself and now a full-time bottle baby. Tayah is such a blessing in our home!
U- Due to many rainy days this month, the umbrella has become a good friend of ours.
V- We had a mini victory when we received our economic stimulus check last month. It helped stimulate our bank account (not exactly what the government wanted…).
W- Wow! was our reaction as we watched the season finales of the only two shows we watch regularly: Lost and The Office.
X- Our dentist make a killing off of us this month: Elizabeth with a root canal and David with a filling. Both of us had x-rays as part of the fun (don’t you love how we’re stretching this?!).
Y- I had the great opportunity to teach Young Women as the Priesthood took over Primary and YW on Mother’s Day. We have fantastic youth in our ward.
Z- We made our first ever trip to the zoo as a family, courtesy of Grandma Sarah. What a wonderful day! The girls were at their cutest and the animals were there is all their splendor. While the weather was a bit chilly, we had a ball. Thanks Grandma!
