Best Job | P&G London 2012 Olympic Games Film

Celebrating two things: first, the Olympics, but second, and more importantly, mothers. Make sure to have a Kleenex ready. We may not all have future Olympians, but as parents, we want what is best for our children.

And watching Elizabeth  the past two weeks has been incredible. Motherhood is the most noble thing in this world and Elizabeth is an amazing mother. I love you!

Finding Joy in the Journey

I read the talk, Finding Joy in the Journey, given by our beloved prophet, Thomas S. Monson, this morning and several quotes stuck out. 

"If you are still in the process of raising children, be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled will disappear all too soon and that you will—to your surprise—miss them profoundly."

"Send that note to the friend you’ve been neglecting; give your child a hug; give your parents a hug; say “I love you” more; always express your thanks. Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved. Friends move away, children grow up, loved ones pass on. It’s so easy to take others for granted, until that day when they’re gone from our lives and we are left with feelings of “what if” and “if only.”

Truly words to live by! As a parent, there are times where time seems to go by quicker than the wind blows. These are typically the times where I want to just hold our kids so they cannot possibly grow any more. 


Conversely, there are times when I take so much for granted. Live life without regrets. Make the moments count. I'm feeling the importance of time and taking advantage of each day, each experience. I definitely need to work on this more.

May's Marvelous Mayhem

First, here I am in bobblehead form. This depicts my front-row experience sitting with Utah Jazz owner Greg Miller (right). Much thanks to my Japanese friend Mizuho Nishio for the amazing artwork!

Here are our May highlights:

• ·         We watched the broadcast of the new Provo City Center Temple groundbreaking and are excited to be in the new temple district. Having been part of the Mount Timpanogas Temple open house, dedication, etc. growing up, I’m thrilled that our children have this opportunity to have this in their lifetimes!
• ·         We are grateful for Elizabeth for all she does, as we celebrated her on Mother’s Day. We also send all our love to the other mothers in our lives!
• ·         Kadence and Tayah both graduated, from kindergarten and preschool, respectively. They both had wonderful programs and came away with glowing reports from their teachers. We are so proud of them and their love of learning!
• ·         We took the kids to some wonderful plays at BYU: a children’s theatre group perfoming six or seven children’s storybooks and the girls and I had a date out to see Arabian Nights.
• ·         We signed the girls up for Cosmo’s Kids Club and they are enjoying it so far!
• ·         We took advantage of our insurance by having dental appointments for the kids (Stockton endured it), Tayah’s kindergarten check-up, and our regular baby visits. Everything continues to look good for our little girl’s arrival in July. Elizabeth has experienced several dizzy spells, but we seem to have figured that out.
• ·         We spent two days up at Dad and Donna’s cabin in Snowbird during Memorial Day weekend. It was wonderful to have a quick respite. We enjoyed the gorgeous scenery, the cool weather, the fantastic food. The girls loved sleeping in a “couch bed!”
• ·         Elizabeth and I enjoyed many great date nights: sealings; the annual BYU President’s Dinner where, among other things, we heard Elder Nelson speak; wallyball and dinner with neighbors.
• ·         We had a special devotional at work where the new Presiding Bishopric came and spoke to us. Our organization is excited to have them leading our cause.
• ·         The Jazz unexpectedly made the Playoffs, but got swept by the Spurs. It was a great season and it was an amazing experience writing for the Deseret News. They’ve already asked me to do so again next year. Many thanks to Elizabeth and the kids for their patience while I’ve written four or five articles per week!
• ·         I was assigned to speak in our home ward, which was a pleasant surprise.
